The objective was to transform an old bell tower dating back to the year 1000 in the historical centre of Salerno into a B&B. Naturally, the project required us to comply and respect all the national heritage guidelines throughout the restoration.
A key task was to dramatically increase the light intensity of this ancient building and enliven it through contemporary furnishings. The intent was to bring to light parts of the ancient wall structure and contrast them with contemporary materials. The light also accentuated the ancient interior stone walls and beams running throughout the tower.
Light also became more prominent by merging rooms together and creating larger areas.
From the living area, one can see the concrete fabricated spiral staircase, which connects the client’s personal residence to the B&B.
